If a complaint is made, there is at least an attempt at an investigation. However, it may not seem this way, because they don't always keep you up-to-date.
If mail isn't tracked, its hard, and almost impossible, to find what happened to it. They will look into it though. Any items found lost, badly addressed or such like are automatically sent to a special centre in Belfast where they attempt to track its owners from any information contained within the item, and if they can't do that, its put on a database to be cross-checked with any complaints.
My advice for you as an ebay seller is to use Special Delivery. Costs more, but you get full tracking, and guaranteed next day delivery. If you advertise this on ebay, you may find your business increases.
If you don't want Special Delivery, at least be sure to get a Proof of Postage, and send it Recorded.

- yes they do investigate, right back to the post office where they were sent and who took them from you.
I had a parcel delivered and i was carded cos i wasnt in, the parcel disappeared between my house and the post office depot, it was never found and they couldnt trace the postman who delivered it. this was back in april, i had to let it go because i never knew where it came from so had nothing to claim for, i get a telephone call every 2 weeks from the post office delivery centre in plymouth ( i live in sw ) and they update me on the ongoing investigation
from your point of view either put recorded delivery as your mail option, or make sure you get proof of postage with delivery postcode on it0% 0 Votes - Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.
Last year I sold a bag on ebay and posted from my local post office. The buyer never received it and claimed the money back from PayPal, but Royal Mail refused to give me any compensation, as the buyer never replied when they asked to confirm if she has received the parcel.
Only a few months later that I saw post office assistant wearing my handbag!!! But still never received anything from Royal Mail, not even an apology.0% 0 Votes - Yes they do - hubby had three expensive parcels 'lost' in one consignment - the royal mail van was robbed! He got all his money back - all parcels fully insured.0% 0 Votes
- Well, when sending an item you should have asked the post office for a proof of posting slip. Then at least you could prove you sent something. But - and i say this as an ebayer of over 4 years standing and with a positive feedback of well over 1100 - if you send goods out on non-trackable services don't blame the post office for non-delivery. The genuine percentage of goods lost in the post is very small indeed. There are far too many opportunistic folk out there who getting a parcel that does not have to be signed for will leave it for a week or so then complain that they have not got their item yet. Ebay seems heavily slanted towards the buyer in these cases' and i have no doubt what so ever that most of your 'non deliveries' were delivered!
I never send anything other than by a service requiring a signature at the other end. I have never had a non-delivery!!! Set your P&P at a level to include Recorded Delivery, Special Delivery or a Courier Service. (try parcels2go.com or parcelflight.co.uk for cut price but reliable courier delivery services - i use these two frequently and their charges are always a pleasant surprise and their service superb!)0% 0 Votes
