Resolved Question

Im director of a company thats going down the pan....?

I havn't earned any money for months and havn't had any other income at all. NONE. Does anyone know here if I would be entitle to any kind of benefit/jobseekers as Im looking for a job.???
Thanks

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

You will probably need to make yourself redundant first and write out a P45 for yourself in order to qualify, this is a bit of a grey area.

Everyone who has paid national insurance is entitled to six months non means test job seekers allowance, all other entitlement is subject to means testing if you have assets (excluding your main home) of more than 6k.

Hope this helps.

  • A company is legally entitled to pay you salary until you are made redundant unless you own the business and No you wont get any benefits while you are still trading, you will have to go bankrupt or insolvent and even then you will have to do it through courts and it can take several years - what assets do you have? Check out the governments website or 'Entitled To' it tells you what you are entitled to.

  • You are still self employed until the company closes down. You can only receive JSA if you paid the correct NI stamp, if you paid the reduced contributions you will not be entitled.

Am I better to trade stocks or build a business to become a multimillionaire? (Please help/advise)?

Resolved Question

Am I better to trade stocks or build a business to become a multimillionaire? (Please help/advise)?

I am 18 years old and I have been, ever since I was 13, been looking for ways to become a multimillionaire. I have looked into investing for wealth and did feel passionate about that for a while, but I think from what I've read in rich dad poor dad and suggestions from other people on yahoo answers, my best chance to become that rich is by building a business(s)

What I'd like to know is, am I better to invest in stocks and trade on price movements to become a multimillionaire, or am I better to learn to build businesses and become a multimillionaire that way? Which is better, and which has the best chances for me to become a multimillionaire while I'm still baby faced?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

Although rich dad poor dad is a pile of worthless nonsense , you are correct to have come to the conclusion that building a business is the only way to build real wealth.

(If you haven't read The Millionaire Next Door, I would recommend reading that one...along with The Future for Investors, The Ten Roads to Riches, The First Billion Is the Hardest, & Buffett: The Making of an American Capitalist )

First a note about "millionaire." There are millionaires and there are millionaires. Since you wrote "multimillionaire" I will assume mean "rich" and not comfortably retired. Most millionaires in the US, whether or not they are actually retired, really fit into the later category. People like me who have worked hard, saved a lot, invested wisely (esp. in ourselves and in things we are really good at) and ignored much of the consumer world rushing around us (This is what The Millionaire Next Door is really about) It is possible to save and invest your way to a comfortable retirement. For people like me that will likely mean early retirement (55) and several million dollars in the bank, so to speak. I am not, however, rich in the way you seem to mean it.

To run things...to do what you want when you want to the way you want to is an entirely different thing. It takes enormous effort, tremendous risk, and a determination to do make your unique talents a profitable business. I have met more than a few of these people over the years -- including a few famous ones. They are intense and focused. Unlike the "comfortablely retired" they rarely do things the conventional way or slow down. They are not dreamers -- they are people who get things done.

No one has become wealthy and powerful without building an extraordinary business along the way. Even if they are seen as "investors," their real wealth lies in the businesses that stands behind them. Off the top of my head, see: Buffett, Soros, Pickens, Bloomberg, Peterson, Tisch, Kluge, Fisher, & Gross.

Do you think work will back me up for this for "insulting" this customer?

Resolved Question

Do you think work will back me up for this for "insulting" this customer?

Some stupid old racist came to the kiosk to buy some ciggies and gave me his pound coins all of which had BNP stickers on. I put them on the counter, stood and peeled off the stickers and threw them in the bin and then gave the man his change.

Anyways, he asked to speak to a manager so I called duty who is from Iran hahahaha, the customer went beetroot then stormed off and said he was gonna write in.

Do you think work will back me up on this?

TBH its not like we could give them out to customers anyway. Could you imagine walking into ASDA for shome shopping and being given your change with BNP stickers on!!! There would be upoar!! They had to be taken off.

He definately put them on as he has given me them before and he wears a BNP badge like he is proud of it!!!

  • He was also guilty of defacing coins of the realm. However, you are there to serve customers ,not make any judgements, you should have taken his money ,put it in the till and removed the stickers when he left or as you took them out to give as change,no problem. This is the advice i would give as a manager,as the old mans money is as good as anyone elses.

  • You haven't done anything wrong. Your work should see that the old man is basically a joke with the whole taking offence to his racist stickers being peeled off coins that he wont ever see again lol. It's not like you were racist against him..if you gave a customer coins with BNP stickers on it then they would probably kick up a fuss. Then you'd be in trouble lol.

Crazy little racist old man, i laughed when I read this :)

  • Most people who threaten to report you don't do so...its the ones who don't tell you that they are going to make a report who do so.
Meanwhile, you should tell the manager that you called what the BNP is and why you peeled the stickers off.

How can i take back full control my families company ?

Resolved Question

How can i take back full control my families company ?

Many of you have probably heard of Johnson & Johnson. We are a major pharmaceutical company based in North America. I currently hold 35% of the company but would like to have complete control. I did not ask to be the heir to this empire but since I am what I am, I want to do the best I can to secure it. I have very little financial experience so I don't know what to do. I don't even trust our companies private attorneys.

In the United Kingdom - which is more popular , Costa Coffee or Starbucks ?

Resolved Question

In the United Kingdom - which is more popular , Costa Coffee or Starbucks ?

which is your favourate of the two ?

I have a sneaky feeling this question if discovered by the marketing agencies of both Costa and Starbucks, could get somebody to simply report this for abuse as its unfairly drawing silly comparisons based on a 'um i like that one more' consenus.

I honestly don't think either has an edge over the other - case closed.

HOWEVER , some consumers are known as 'brand loyalists' in the Marketing and Branding field of study (guess what I graduated in back in 94 folks :-D )

two stores opposite each other on the street - both in an 'up market' part of your city, and both seat around 150+ people with savoury snacks, pies and what not.

Costa Coffee or Starbucks ? which one would you walk into without a seconds thought ?

Let the Coffee Wars Commence ! :-D

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Well if you would like to read todays (saturday) Daily Mail you will find a large article by Starbucks saying how they are loosing out to Costa and Cafe Nero. Starbucks have said that their shops are outdated and they are going to close down a lot of high street shops and rebrand with up to date decor.
So case closed by Starbucks. From the horses mouth.

  • If you ask the ordinary man in the street, I think a significant number of them would say that they do NOT really care where they get their coffee from and it might depend on which store presents itself at the moment when he/she fancies a cup of coffee. So this means that it would depend on store locations and if the foot traffic consists of people in the particular location that fancies coffee.

The pricing does not really matter because people overall thinks that coffee from establishments like Costa and Starbucks are too expensive anyway and you are being ripped off irrespective from which of the recognised high street players you buy from.

Of interest I met a someone who claimed to be a head of sorts for Starbucks in a Pub in Chiswick recently. He said that starbucks biggest competitor at the moment is Mcdonalds ( hard to believe that a non specialist restaurant is considered to be the biggest competitor). By the way he said that he believed that Starbucks has not done enough to capture the tea market as Brits are known more for tea drinking than coffee and he said that their tea really needed improvement.

A friend of mine who was present with me, met this guy a few weeks later, and he said that they have managed to source better tea since our first meeting.

  • Hey,
    Interesting question..
Im torn because Costa does arguably do a better quality coffee as the barista grinds coffee manually on the coffee machine... whereas in Starbucks they just press a button for the coffee..

On the other hand, though, Starbucks has a much wider variety of drinks/frappacinos etc etc

A lot of people like the prestige of starbucks - i think its been around longer than costa and is more internationally wide spread? So that might make them wanna go there... i kinda like costa BECAUSE of the fact that its a bit smaller.. i guess costa is like the new black. hehe

Where do UK supermarkets get their food from?

Resolved Question

Where do UK supermarkets get their food from?

Sounds like a simple question, but I was wondering if any one had any details on who provides the food, why and at what cost.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

From large bulk supply warehouses and giant freezer stores, sometimes owned by the supermarkets themselves as distribution centres. That is what all the freezer trucks and and all the other food transporter trucks are doing on the roads. Most have allocated time windows for the deliveries they are carrying,as warehouse logistics mean there is no space for incoming material and foods until the outgoing deliveries have been loaded and gone to free up the space needed for the new stuff. The transport costs and working practices are cut to the bone with times virtually to the minute in some cases, this is why i never hold up a truck on the motorway,if he is going faster than me i pull in and let him pass, every delay can mean a refused load being sent back, this puts costs up in the shops.

  • Actually besides the laws of your particular state or country, you should always enter into partnership with someone you totally trust with your life, your reputation and your money.
You must be very careful. Even if it was my best friend or my sister or my mom, I would do a full background check on them before I signed anything.
And above all, listen to your gut!

Does Sky have the worst customer service ever?

Also, their services (broadband and phone) are awful. Is Sky the worst company ever for customer services?

It is just one of the many points schemes available and the airmiles can build up quite quickly if you concentrate your purchasing.

Have a look at http://www.airmiles.co.uk/collect and see if the places where you can collect are the sort of places you would spend your money.

ASDA home deliveries, can a 16 year old sign for it at the door?

Resolved Question

ASDA home deliveries, can a 16 year old sign for it at the door?

my mum will be out when it is due. It says you have to be over 18 to order but it doesn't mention delivery

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

I've never known a delivery man to ask for proof of age so I'd politely smile at him, sign as required and make sure you put everything in the cupboards for your mum coming home. That way you are likely to earn some extra pocket money too. The 18 age limit on ordering is becasue you need a credit card to pay.

Has any body heard of Diesel Models? In London?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

As a fashion design student I must admit I do hear a lot of mention of Diesel Models within the industry. Although I didn't know too much about them I have done some research and they seem to be a fantastic company and very big in the fashion world. www.dieselmodels.co.uk they seem to have links with many top fashion studios in London, staff working with big names including London fashion week as it currently running and is of big interest to me. Diesel Models seem great so good luck and Im sure you`ll be modelling for my fashion lable one day.

  • Diesel Models is a safe and tested way to get into the world of modelling. Unfortunately this is one of the most difficult industries to get into and going about it alone is next to impossible. Diesel Models explain a five step process in which you discover what modelling is all about, whether or not modelling is right for you and if so how to go about getting into it.

Diesel Models will offer applicants the opportunity to go down to a top London fashion studio in order to gain valuable insight as what the industry will expect of them. This is also an opportunity to put together some professional images to build up your portfolio in order to show modelling agencies your full potential.

They are there to offer help and advice to start out models.
  • Yes I have heard of Diesel Models in London they Arena amazing company that me and many of my friends have used with our children. Like all moms we believe our kids are gorgeous and so of course jumped at the opportunity to take them to a professional company and find out their real potential. We were all very impressed with the professional attitude of Diesel Models Staff when dealing with our kids, very honest whilst making the day an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. We all came away with great photographs from the day and on Diesel Models recommendation my son decided that he would like to pursue this as a career. As he is only fifteen years of age we have been approaching the agency's Diesel Models suggested together and he has been getting great reviews on his portfolio. As we are based in London we have many of the top agencies right on out door stop and this has helped with finding him work. He has thus far done catalogue work just off his portfolio and has been offered contracts by two leading agencies. I would feel more comfortable with his full time modelling once his GCSE`s are out the way next year but he has mine and his dads full support.
  • I took my Daughter down to London to a well know fashion studio through Diesel Models about a year ago now. As she was very new to the industry we decided this would be the best route for her to follow. Best way to learn about how everything works. They were so helpful and help us build a very professional and beautiful portfolio for my daughter. Since then her confidence has grown in leaps and bounds thanks to Diesel Models. I feel she is now ready to actively start marketing herself to modelling agencies and I am a very proud mother.
  • Diesel Models is a fantastic place to find out what modelling is all about! When I started in the industry I was young and naïve and there are so many companies out there promising you the world. I am very lucky I applied to Diesel Models by applying on their website. I was contact about two weeks later by a woman who asked all the right questions and understood that although this was something I was very interested in and passionate about, that until getting in front of the camera neither them nor I knew if id be a success? Thankfully the shoot went well and the images proved that I was very comfortable and photogenic. I got a portfolio built up which I must admit was amazing. Since the shoot I have approached a number of agencies who I have signed with a have started a very successful career. Best decision I have ever made.
  • Ive been through Diesl Models in London, what a fabulous place. They have contacts right through the fashion industry, modeling agencies, hair and make up artists. My day with them was awsome. They completely transformed me. Because I didnt know much about the industry prior to starting I contact dieasel Models in London for some advice. They were very professional and gave the insight i needed. I was invited to a photoshoot at a top London studio where i had the chance to find out my real modelling potential. After seeing the result of the images ive never been so amazed. I looked like something out of a fashion magazine! The idea behind this all was to put me on the right track as to where to go next. This has given me the chance to realise that modelling is the only thing I want to do. (Modelling for Diesel in London has always been my dream)
But anyway I got the best portfolio thanks to diesel models and I am now signed to the best agency like ever!
