My internet provider has been under charging me for ages - will they ask me for the extra money?

Resolved Question

My internet provider has been under charging me for ages - will they ask me for the extra money?

Basically my internet provider has been billing me for the basic internet package, although I have been receiving the the higher package complete with TV channels.
I know they've been doing this for years, but seeing as I have the paper bills requesting the minimal amount thats all I've paid them.
But now theres a problem with our connection, and I'm gonna have to call them up. If they look over my account records and realise they have been undercharging me can they legally demand the rest of the money? All I wanna do is cancel the account.
Thanks again

They would be able to ask you for the money you haven't paid.
My mother got a letter from her electricity company asking for $112 they forgot to add onto a bill two years previously. She was angry because it was their fault, but she had to pay it.

  • Consider the following :-

    1) When you signed up the salesman said you could have the 'special offer' package including the extra channels / whatever at the basic price .. You have been very happy with this special deal and would like to thank the salesman, but now you have decided that you really can't afford it (perhaps because the house is being repossessed and you are being made bankrupt).

    2) You signed up for the 'full' package and they under-charged you. When you noticed, you failed to bring this to their attention, thereby committing fraud ...

PS you had better find the Contract you signed in the first place = it will have the 'package' and cost written on it ... this should prove if case (1) or (2) applies ...
  • They may do, seeing as you knew it was wrong, you can't kick up much of a fuss.
