What can you do if your job offer letter is not honoured?

Resolved Question

What can you do if your job offer letter is not honoured?

I was offered a salary increase after working for the company for 6 months. My manager took me in the office and said that the company isn't doing too well right now and that I wouldn't get it. He also said that if I wanted to leave they wouldn't have any problems. One month later the company started to employ more people but again no salary increase. What are my options? is this classed as breach of contract? is a offer letter contractual?

No increase?
Not a lot you can do about it, salary increases are not guaranteed.

I've just had my salary cut by 20% (my last increase was in 2001). I'm just thankful I have a job.

  • that was not a contractual obligation to increase salary. they may raise or decrease salary anytime they choose. it is up to you if you want to continue working for them if their practice is to not honor those letters. most employers would do what they said in that letter..

  • Be glad that you have a job at all. Wait till better times, find another job and then leave them in the lurch.
