Formal and informal structures in an organisation ?

How can formal and informal structures of an organisation influence relationships within the organisation ?

The informal structure has more influence than the formal one. In the end organizations are always at the mercy of the goodwill of its employees. With employee support bad policies can succeed but without their support the best policies will fail.

  • My experience with large manufacturing and engineering organizations are that they need and want a very formal organization structure. The employees want to know exactly who is the boss and who can tell them what to do.
